Plans to overthrow BJP from power in 2019 elections

The Congress-JD(S) coalition government started their journey in Karnataka on May 23 with JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy taking oath as the Chief Minister and Congress' G Parameshwara as Deputy Chief Minister of the state.

The cabinet of 34 ministers include 22 from Congress and 12 from the JD(S).

Sonia Gandhi, Congress President Rahul Gandhi, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, actor turned politician Kamal Hassam, NCP's Sharad Pawar, Mayawati were present at the swearing in ceremony among others.

Kumaraswamy said "The national leaders have not come to support me, but to convey a message that 2019 will be a year of change". "Failing to form government in Karnataka is a big blow to the BJP and Narendra Modi. We have all united against the saffron party; even the people are expressing the need for change" he added.

After being sworn in as the CM, Kumaraswamy announced that his government shall waive farm loans in the state.

PM Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister congratulated the new CM on Twitter.
