Railway jobs not to be reserved for the locals

Pratidin Bureau

At a time when various organisations had demanded reservation for the indigenous people of the region, Union Minister Piyush Goyal had completely ruled out the its possibility.

Speaking in a video conference with the media, Goyal on Monday said that the centre has not accepted any proposal on reservation in railway jobs either for the unemployed of Assam or the Northeast.

Replying to a media person, Goyal said that jobs in railways are for all the unemployed of India and not only from the northeast. But what we did is that we have made the provision of appearing for the railway recruitment examinations in regional languages such as Assamese and Bodo among others, he added.

The minister further stated that there are more than one lakh vacancies, if the northeasterners try a little harder, they will definitely succeed in doing so.

AASU, Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva-Chatra Parishad and several other organisations had demanded full reservation for the locals in the 3rd and 4th grade posts in the Northeast Frontier Railways (NFR).
