Women’s Hockey World Cup : Team India moves to knockout stage

The Indian women's hockey team has secured their place in the knockout stage of the Women's Hockey World Cup in London, after an energetic performance on Sunday.

In their third and final group match, the Indian women's hockey team displayed a stellar show as they managed to hold the high ranked United States to a 1-1 draw in their last Pool B match. The draw enabled the team to progress to the crossovers.

During Sunday's match, American Margaux Paolino scored the first goal at the 11th minute of the game after several attempts thwarted by the Indian goalkeeper Savita. But the World no. 10 Indian team caught up with the World no. 7 Team USA as Rani Rampal scored a goal at the 31st minute.

India finished in the third spot in the four-team Pool B. They will have to face the Italian team on Tuesday in the play-offs, after which the winner of the match will have to face Ireland in the quarter finals on Thursday.

The semi-finals will be played on Saturday, and the Final is scheduled for Sunday.
