In a development that could change the way aircrafts function for good, Airbus is planning to introduce hydrogen-fuelled commercial planes by 2035.

Hailing it as the first commercial zero-emission aircraft, a BBC report quoted Airbus chief executive Guillaume Faury as saying that it marked "a historic moment for the commercial aviation sector."

Commenting on the impact of using hydrogen on the climate, he further said that it has the "the potential to significantly reduce aviation's climate impact."

Faury further said that the "transition to hydrogen, as the primary power source for these concept planes, will require decisive action from the entire aviation ecosystem."

"Together with the support from government and industrial partners, we can rise up to this challenge to scale up renewable energy and hydrogen for the sustainable future of the aviation industry," he added.
