A 5.1 magnitude earthquake had jolted Pakistan's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and east Punjab provinces on Wednesday, said the Meteorological Department (Met). The quake has spread panic all over the area.

The epicentre of the quake was stated as the northwestern city of Bannu at a depth of 12 kilometres. The tremor was felt in the Swat Valley and Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province bordering Afghanistan, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department.

At least nine children were injured in Bannu's Government Model School near Tankhi Bazaar.

In the month of April too, a 5.6-magnitude earthquake had jolted several parts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province.
