Trump meets Japan’s new Emperor

US President Donald Trump who is currently on a four-dayvisit to Japan became the first foreign leader to meet Japan's newly enthronedEmperor Naruhito at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo on Monday.

Emperor Naruhito ascended the throne earlier in May afterhis father Akihito stepped down.  

At the Imperial Palace, Emperor Naruhito and the EmpressMasako received the U.S President and first lady Melania Trump amid a festivemood.

After the Imperial couple and the Trumps exchanged greetings,they stood on a red carpet for the two countries' national anthems.  Ahead of the meeting the US President calledthe occasion "a great honour".

The US President and Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe alsomet at a state guest house where they discussed about trade relations withNorth Korea as ties with the US are of great strategic importance to Japan. HoweverTrump said that much of the deal will wait until the Japanese PM Abe faceselections for Japan's upper house of parliament, which are expected to takeplace in July.  

The Trumps who arrived on Saturday are staying three nightsin Japan as state guests.
