Assam has lost its sixth police personnel. He succumbed to the bullet injury he faced during the crossfire between police and security forces of the state and Mizoram that occurred on Monday.
Confirming the news, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that one Shyamprasad Dusat of 6th AP Bn passed away at Silchar Medical College and Hospital on Tuesday evening.
The minister also informed due to the police officer's deteriorating condition, he could not be shifted to Guwahati.
"I am sad to inform that Shyamprasad Dusat of 6th AP Bn has succumbed to his abdominal bullet injury at SMCH. He couldn't be operated on or moved to Guwahati because of his worsening condition. I salute the brave martyr and bow in reverence. My heartfelt condolences to the family," Dr. Sarma tweeted.
So far, five police personnel and a civilian have been killed in the crossfire.
