A gruesome murder has rocked the Kharghuli area of Guwahati, where a 69-year-old woman, Bandana Das, was found dead under mysterious and disturbing circumstances.
Her body was discovered inside a room of her residence on Wednesday morning. Initial reports indicate that she was strangled, and later, her throat was slit with a pair of scissors. The room's door was found open, prompting investigators to consider the possible involvement of someone known to the victim.
Sources said the elderly woman had been ailing for some time and used a walker to move around, highlighting her limited mobility.
In connection with the case, police have detained two individuals — Kunjalata Das and Ratul Das — who had been assigned to care for the woman. They are currently being questioned as part of the investigation.
A team of police officers and forensic experts arrived promptly at the scene and began collecting critical evidence. Investigators are exploring multiple angles, especially focusing on those who were in close proximity to the victim in the hours leading up to her death.
Speaking to the media, DCP Amitabh Basumatary confirmed, “This is a case of murder.” He further stated that several explosive details have already emerged during the investigation.
The probe remains ongoing, with city police assuring that all leads are being thoroughly pursued to uncover the motive behind this chilling crime.
