The arrested individuals have been identified as Popi Deka (30), a resident of Jorhat, and Dashami Devi (55), originally from Bihar. The two women were arrested from Guwahati's Fatasil Ambari area.

Both women were reportedly living as tenants in Datalpara under the jurisdiction of the Fatasil Ambari police station.

The case came to light after a young woman from Salbari in Noonmati went missing on June 9. She had gone to visit her friend Popi Deka at her rented house in Datalpara, but mysteriously disappeared the same day. On the night of June 16, the missing woman sent a WhatsApp message to her family, claiming she had been sold in Rajasthan for Rs 1.8 lakh.

Following the message, the family filed an FIR at the Noonmati Police Station. The police began tracking the victim’s location and confirmed her presence in Rajasthan. Based on this information, a team from Noonmati Police launched an operation and successfully rescued the woman, bringing her back to Guwahati.

Simultaneously, the police arrested the two women from Datalpara who were allegedly responsible for selling the victim. During the raid, authorities recovered Rs 53,000 in cash, a pair of gold bangles, railway tickets, and three mobile phones from the accused.

A case has been registered under Case No. 120/25 at the Noonmati Police Station, and further investigation is underway to identify other links in the human trafficking network that may be operating in and around Guwahati.
