Assam police recovered a substantial quantity of suspected heroin during a routine naka checking operation at Bongara under Azara Police Station on Sunday morning.
At approximately 10:30 AM, a Tata Magic vehicle bearing registration number AS 25 DC 7818, travelling from Mirza towards Azara, was intercepted by the naka team for regular inspection. During the check, officers found the driver to be in an intoxicated state, raising immediate suspicion.
Acting swiftly, the naka personnel alerted the Officer-in-Charge of Azara Police Station. Subsequently, ACP Azara, along with independent witnesses, arrived at the scene to conduct a thorough search of the vehicle. Upon inspection, authorities recovered 11 vials of suspected heroin, concealed ingeniously inside the driver’s seat. The total weight of the contraband, including the vials, was approximately 15 grams.
Preliminary testing using a Drug Detection (DD) kit on the spot confirmed the presence of heroin. The narcotics were seized, packed, and sealed as per legal protocols, all under proper videography and in the presence of senior officers and witnesses.
The driver was identified as Sadhar Ali (27), son of Late Moinul Haque, a resident of Morigaon district under Lahorighat Police Station. He was taken into custody along with the seized contraband. Authorities have confirmed that a case will be registered against him under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
