Man Mysteriously Vanishes Inside Guwahati Zoo; Only Shoes and Bag Found
A sense of panic and uncertainty gripped the Assam State Zoo-cum-Botanical Garden (popularly known as Guwahati Zoo) on Thursday evening after a man reportedly went missing inside the zoo premises, triggering an intense joint search operation by the Guwahati Police and the Forest Department.
According to official sources, the visitor had entered the zoo in the evening carrying a bag but did not exit, as per available records. Later, during a routine patrol, authorities discovered a pair of shoes and a bag on the hill area within the zoo, sparking fears of a possible suicide attempt or mishap.
The alarming discovery prompted the launch of a full-scale search operation, led by DCP (East) and the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO). Multiple teams of police personnel and forest officials have been deployed across the zoo and adjoining forested areas in an effort to trace the missing individual.
“The search is ongoing, and all possibilities are being investigated. We have not ruled out any angle, including the possibility of self-harm,” said a senior police official on the condition of anonymity.
Eyewitnesses and zoo staff confirmed that the man had entered the premises carrying a bag during the late afternoon hours. However, there has been no sign of him since, and no conclusive evidence has yet emerged regarding his current location or condition.
The incident has left other visitors and zoo authorities deeply concerned, as the area remains cordoned off amid the search. The sudden disappearance and the circumstances surrounding the recovery of personal belongings have raised serious safety and security questions within one of the city’s most frequented public attractions.
Further updates are awaited as the rescue operation continues late into the night.
