Midnight Blitz: Dispur Police Launches Surprise Crackdown on Unruly Youths
Around 1:30 AM on Sunday, Dispur Police launched a high-voltage operation targeting street disorder and unlawful activities. Led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Mrinal Deka himself, a large team of officers stormed the streets, wielding batons and determination.
The operation kicked off from beneath the Ganeshguri flyover and extended up to the iconic Ganesh Mandir area. The mission: to rein in unruly behaviour by groups of youngsters roaming the streets after midnight.
Police officials rounded up youths—both men and women—who were allegedly found indulging in public drinking, creating disturbances, and engaging in suspected immoral activities. The drive also extended to two-wheeler riders flouting safety norms, with helmet-less riders facing immediate action.
This bold move by Dispur Police comes just days after they nabbed 18 youths from Ganeshguri for alleged involvement in unethical acts. The recent operation signals a strong message: lawlessness will not be tolerated, especially in the capital's core zones.
Locals have lauded the police action, calling it a “timely and necessary step” to ensure safety and restore public order during late hours.
Meanwhile, the Dispur Police have confirmed that such surprise operations will continue in the coming days to keep the city’s nightlife clean, safe, and accountable.
