Watch: Woman Caught on Camera Stealing AC Copper in Guwahati
In a shocking case of theft, a young woman has been caught on mobile camera stealing copper coils from air conditioning units in Guwahati. The incident has exposed a wider network of women allegedly involved in stealing AC copper from buildings and government offices across the city.
The footage, which has gone viral, shows the woman expertly dismantling AC units and removing copper coils with ease. In several cases, the thieves even broke through building walls to access the units. Sources say the stolen copper was being sold in bulk at scrap markets.
One of the key locations repeatedly targeted by the gang was the Pibco Point in Rukminigaon, where AC units were stripped over a period of several weeks. Despite multiple incidents, the culprits managed to evade arrest—until now.
Following sustained surveillance, Dispur Police have arrested one individual connected to the thefts. Interrogation has revealed that a group of women, possibly working in coordination, are behind the series of crimes.
Police have confirmed that a broader operation is now underway to identify and apprehend other women involved in the racket. A crackdown on local scrap dealers who may have purchased the stolen copper is also being planned.
Authorities have urged residents and office complexes to be vigilant and take extra precautions to secure their air conditioning units, especially in isolated or low-traffic areas.
