Assam: Excise Official Among Three Held in Seperate Bribery Cases

In the first incident, a Grade-IV employee named Dimbeswar Haloi was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of just ₹60 at the Rangia Revenue Circle Office in Kamrup district.

In a major anti-corruption crackdown in Assam, three government employees have been caught red-handed while accepting bribes in separate incidents. The arrests were made after the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, Assam, launched investigations on Friday.

In the first incident, a Grade-IV employee named Dimbeswar Haloi was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of just ₹60 at the Rangia Revenue Circle Office in Kamrup district. Haloi was apprehended by a team of officials from the Vigilance & Anti-Corruption cell while he accepted the demanded bribe money from an individual at the revenue circle office. 

Following the incident, the functioning of the entire Rangia Revenue Circle Office has come to a halt. Haloi is currently undergoing a marathon interrogation session.

In a separate operation, Deputy Superintendent of Excise, Prasanta Kumar Gogoi was arrested from Sonari in Charaideo district while accepting a bribe of ₹20,000. The Anti-Corruption Cell caught Gogoi red-handed with cash in hand. Gogoi allegedly demanded the bribe in connection with the licensing of a country liquor outlet. 

In the same trap operation, Bishwajit Gogoi, Excise Constable has also been apprehended for accepting demanded bribe in conspiracy with Prasanta Gogoi. Legal proceedings have been initiated against both the officials as the probe continues.
