Horrific Pile-Up on NH-27 in Chirang’s Kashikotra: One Killed, Several Injured
A tragic multi-vehicle collision on National Highway 27 at Kashikotra in Assam's Chirang district claimed the life of a young man and left several others seriously injured on Tuesday evening.
The accident, which occurred under mysterious circumstances, involved at least six vehicles, including both small and large passenger carriers. The deceased has been identified as Namit Gayari, a resident of Basugaon. He reportedly died on the spot due to the impact.
His sister, Ritu Gayari, sustained critical injuries and has been admitted to a nearby hospital. Medical officials stated that her condition remains serious.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with damaged vehicles strewn across the highway and panicked cries from injured passengers. Locals and passersby rushed to assist the victims before police and emergency services arrived at the scene.
The district traffic police have cordoned off the area and launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident. Preliminary reports suggest that one of the vehicles may have lost control, leading to a chain-reaction collision involving multiple others.
Traffic movement along the busy highway was severely disrupted for hours following the crash. Police teams are currently working to clear the wreckage and restore normalcy on the route.
Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
