One Dead, Three Injured in Coal Dust Accident at Star Cement Plant
A tragic industrial accident occurred at the Star Cement plant in Chamata Pathar, Assam, on Tuesday, resulting in the death of an engineer and injuries to three other workers.
The deceased has been identified as Shiva Tiwari, an engineer working in the coal mill section of the plant. He hailed from Raghurai Nagar in Bihar.
According to preliminary information, the incident took place when coal dust suddenly spewed out of the mill, allegedly suffocating the workers by entering their noses and mouths during operations. The exact cause of the mishap remains unclear at this point.
Upon arrival at the hospital, doctors immediately initiated emergency treatment for Shiva Tiwari. Although he had no detectable pulse, the medical team administered CPR and other resuscitation efforts. Despite their best attempts, Tiwari was soon declared dead.
The three other injured workers, Satya Sarkar, Prasanna Medhi, and Ranjit Bordoloi, received preliminary medical attention at the same facility. Owing to the seriousness of their condition, all three were subsequently referred to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for further treatment. Among them, Prasanna Medhi (39) was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
An investigation is expected to be launched to determine whether there was any negligence or lapse in safety protocols that led to the tragedy.
