In a major crackdown on alleged corruption within the healthcare system of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), Jorhat, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case against 10 individuals, including a former Deputy General Manager (Medical Services), a contractual medical officer, and the proprietors of eight empanelled private medical shops. According to an official release by the CBI on Wednesday, the public servants—then serving with ONGC Jorhat’s Occupational Health division—allegedly entered into a criminal conspiracy with the owners of private pharmacies and unidentified persons. The accused are alleged to have processed fake requisition slips to claim reimbursement for medicines that were never issued or received by the actual beneficiaries or their dependents.

The bogus bills, worth approximately Rs 45,00,000, were raised using the names of unsuspecting ONGC employees and their family members—many of whom were reportedly unaware of any such prescriptions or medical claims in their name.

Following the registration of the FIR on June 17, CBI teams launched coordinated searches across multiple locations, including the residential premises of the former ONGC officials and all eight pharmacy proprietors. The raids led to the recovery of several incriminating documents and suspected fraudulent records linked to the fake billing racket.

While the names of the accused have not been officially disclosed yet, CBI officials confirmed that the investigation is progressing and that further scrutiny of seized documents is underway.
