Deadly Landslide Hits Dima Hasao, Two Dead, Several Injured

Tragedy struck Dima Hasao district on Wednesday morning when a massive landslide hit Hangrum village under Mahur Police Station jurisdiction, claiming two lives and injuring several others. The disaster unfolded around 10:30 AM along the Mahur–Tamenglong stretch of the National Highway, when a large mass of soil and debris suddenly came crashing down onto the roadside.

The force of the landslide swept through nearby roadside establishments, leveling at least five shops and inflicting significant damage on the area. Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred without warning, catching passersby and shopkeepers completely off guard.

Among those who lost their lives was Huajenam Riame, a 60-year-old resident of the locality. The second casualty was an excavator operator, whose identity is yet to be officially established.

Following the incident, emergency personnel, including local police and disaster response teams, rushed to the scene and launched swift rescue and clearance operations. The injured were immediately evacuated and admitted to Haflong Civil Hospital, where they are currently under treatment.
