A festive atmosphere turned into a scene of heartbreak as a minor girl lost her life in a tragic accident during the Durga Puja celebrations at Moran in Assam’s Dibrugarh district.
The incident occurred on Sunday night when a police vehicle struck the 11-year-old-girl while she was on her way to witness the colorful festivities with her mother.
The young victim, identified as Rashmita Gaur, was accompanying her mother to join the joyous celebrations of Durga Puja in her neighbourhood when the tragic incident unfolded.
Sources informed that a police vehicle, believed to be on duty to maintain security and traffic control during the festivities, hit the girl at a relatively high speed, knocking her down.
Bystanders and locals quickly rushed the girl to Dibrugarh Medical College Hospital, however, despite best efforts, the girl succumbed to her injuries the next day (Monday).
Notably, the police vehicle involved in the accident belonged to Bamunbari PS In-Charge Anup Gayan. Family members of the deceased minor girl have lodged a formal complaint against Gayan in this regard.
