Encroachment Sparks Tension in Sadiya's Kundil Chapori
Even as eviction drives continue across parts of Assam, concerns are mounting in Kundil Chapori, located in Upper Assam’s Sadiya, over the increasing settlement of suspected individuals in the area.
Local residents allege that day by day, new unknown individuals are establishing residences in the Kundil riverine zone. The situation has been further aggravated by reports that a large stretch of land in the Charoniya Pathar area, traditionally used as grazing grounds, is being encroached upon by groups associated with Patanjali.
According to sources, the Patanjali group has allegedly fenced off a vast expanse of the Char land with barbed wire, restricting access to what was once common grazing land for cattle. As a result, a severe shortage of open space has forced local livestock onto nearby roads, leading to a surge in road accidents.
Despite repeated pleas from villagers, the local administration has reportedly taken no action, further intensifying public anger. Locals also claim that the Patanjali Udyan in the region was set up without any consultation with the community, fueling suspicions and resentment.
What’s more, residents allege that the garden is now becoming a focal point for the influx of suspected outsiders, raising serious questions about land use, administrative oversight, and demographic change in the sensitive riverine belt.
The people of Kundil Chapori are demanding immediate intervention from authorities, a halt to unregulated land occupation, and a thorough investigation into the alleged activities surrounding the Patanjali project.
