Forest Department Cracks Down on Poachers in Manas National Park; One Arrested

As per sources, during the operation, one suspected poacher identified as Nomal Mushahary, a resident of Kumarshali village in Chirang district, was arrested.

In a combative move against poaching, the Forest Department launched a major crackdown inside Assam's Manas National Park following intelligence reports of poachers in the Kuklung range.

As per sources, during the operation, one suspected poacher, identified as Nomal Mushahary, a resident of Kumarshali village in Chirang district, was arrested. Forest officials also seized two firearms believed to have been used in illegal hunting activities.

However, another poacher who was reportedly with Mushahary managed to flee during the operation. According to forest officials, the fleeing suspect was injured in the leg after being shot and escaped into the dense forest. Search operations are underway to trace the injured individual.

Mushahary, during preliminary interrogation, admitted that he was accompanied by another poacher. Forest personnel had to fire as many as 40 rounds during the encounter.
