Newly appointed Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President and Member of Parliament, Gaurav Gogoi, on Saturday, paid a visit to the Hajo-Sualkuchi constituency as part of his first official outreach after assuming charge.
However, the atmosphere turned tense in Kamrup district’s Singimari after a section of alleged BJP workers raised slogans against Gaurav Gogoi. The BJP workers allegedly behaved in an unruly manner and chanted provocative slogans like “Gaurav Gogoi Murdabad”, disturbing the environment. Police forces had to reportedly intervene to bring the situation under control.
Gogoi began his day by offering prayers at the historic Ganesh Temple in Agyathuri, marking his spiritual and symbolic start to his statewide tour. He was warmly welcomed by a large number of Congress leaders, workers, and supporters who gathered to greet their newly appointed state president.
Speaking to the media, Gaurav Gogoi addressed recent controversies surrounding the alleged beneficiary status of a cabinet minister’s wife. He demanded clarity on the issue and called on the Assam Chief Minister to provide a clear explanation regarding the matter.
Gogoi further stated that the purpose of his visit was to connect with Congress workers at the grassroots level and to understand their perspectives and concerns. “This journey is about listening to the voices of our workers on the ground and rebuilding the Congress from the roots,” he said.
