APCC President and Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi on Friday launched a scathing attack on Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, accusing him of treating the hill district of Karbi Anglong as an ATM for unchecked extraction of natural resources.

Speaking to the media persons during his visit to Karbi Anglong on Friday, Gaurav Gogoi said, “For Himanta Biswa Sarma, Karbi Anglong has become nothing less than an ATM - an ATM for cement, stone, and sand.”

He also accused the Chief Minister of having no respect for tribal communities, terming that politics for him is a business.

“He has no real respect for tribal communities. For leaders like him, politics is not public service, but a business,” he added.

He further accused the CEM of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, Tuliram Ronghang, stating,  “While in Dispur, the 'Himanta Biswa Sarma Pvt. Ltd.' is in operation, here in Karbi Anglong, it is the 'Tuliram Ronghang Pvt. Ltd.' that is running the show.”
