Oil Tanker Blast in Digboi Garage Leaves Two Critically Injured

A massive explosion rocked a garage in Ramnagar, Digboi, on Sunday when an oil tanker undergoing repairs suddenly caught fire and exploded during welding. The incident involved an oil tanker bearing registration number AS07 C 5132, reportedly from Lakhimpur's Daimukh area.

The blast left two individuals seriously injured: the tanker’s driver, Sunil Bora (51), and a mechanic, Umesh Singh (46). Both sustained severe injuries to their faces and bodies and were immediately rushed to Dibrugarh for advanced medical treatment.

According to initial reports, the explosion occurred due to gross safety violations and unauthorised repair work being carried out on the highly inflammable vehicle. Fortunately, other workers present at the garage at the time of the incident escaped unharmed.

Police from Digboi arrived promptly at the scene and have begun an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the explosion. Preliminary findings suggest that negligence in following standard safety protocols while repairing the fuel-laden tanker led to the tragic accident.

Authorities are now probing whether the garage had the necessary permits and safety measures in place to conduct such high-risk repairs.
