PM Modi Hails Bodoland’s Rise Through CEM Football Cup, Unity, and Hope
In the latest edition of his monthly radio programme 'Mann Ki Baat', Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered a glowing tribute to Assam’s Bodoland region, presenting it as a powerful symbol of peace, transformation, and youth empowerment before the world.
Once known for violence and unrest, Bodoland now shines as a beacon of hope and harmony, said the Prime Minister, as he described its remarkable journey through a poetic and heartfelt narrative that resonated with listeners across Assam and the nation.
“Imagine a scene,” PM Modi said. “The morning sun gently touches the hills and slowly spreads across the fields. A group of football enthusiasts begins to warm up. The whistle blows, and in moments, the entire field comes alive with cheers and slogans. With every pass and every goal, the excitement grows. You may wonder where this beautiful world exists. Friends, this is the reality of Bodoland in Assam.”
He highlighted how the youth of Bodoland, once trapped in an atmosphere of limited opportunities due to conflict, are now driving the region’s transformation with confidence and passion, particularly through sports.
Bodoland CEM Cup Becomes Symbol of Unity and Aspirations
Prime Minister Modi lauded the Bodoland Territorial Region’s (BTR) initiative in organising the Bodoland CEM Cup, which he described as more than just a football tournament, a grand celebration of unity and aspiration. He noted that the tournament has drawn over 3,700 teams and nearly 70,000 players, including a significant number of girls, reflecting the region’s incredible progress.
“These numbers speak volumes about the extraordinary transformation taking place in Bodoland,” the Prime Minister remarked. “The region is now asserting its place on the national sports map.”

Reflecting on Bodoland’s violent past, PM Modi acknowledged that a time once existed when the region was known primarily for strife and conflict, and the youth had few avenues to dream or grow. “Today, there are dreams in their eyes and a spirit of self-reliance in their hearts,” he said.
He celebrated the rise of footballers from the region who have become national icons, naming Halicharan Narzary, Durga Boro, Apurba Narzary, and Manbir Basumatary among others. “These are not just football players, they represent a new generation that has taken Bodoland from the playing field to the national stage,” the Prime Minister said.
He added that many of these athletes trained under tough conditions, with limited resources, but persevered through adversity. Their success stories are now inspiring a new generation of children across the country to dream big.
A Message of Hope and Empowerment
PM Modi’s special mention of Bodoland during Mann Ki Baat was not only a celebration of sports but also an acknowledgement of peace and development in a region once torn by unrest. His words instilled a renewed sense of pride and optimism among the people of Assam, particularly in Bodoland.
The feature served as a reminder that with determination and the right support, even the most troubled regions can script a new destiny, one of dreams, discipline, and dignity.
