Assam University Warns of Admission Scam Targeting CUET Applicants
Assam University has issued an urgent advisory following reports of a scam involving fraudulent promises of admission in exchange for money. A man identified as Ahmed Hussain is allegedly targeting prospective students, particularly those applying to the Physics department, by offering guaranteed admission despite low CUET (Common University Entrance Test) scores.
According to reports, Hussain has been contacting students via email, inquiring about their CUET scores and caste details, and then offering admission through unofficial means for a payment. In at least one confirmed case, a student was asked to pay ₹5,000 for guaranteed admission. It is feared that more students might have fallen prey to similar offers.
The university has responded swiftly to the situation, releasing an official statement warning students and parents against such fraudulent schemes. The statement emphasised that all admissions at Assam University are strictly merit-based and solely determined by CUET scores, as per UGC guidelines.
“No admission is granted through payment or backdoor channels,” the statement clarified. The university urged students to verify all admission-related information exclusively through the official website ([www.aus.ac.in](http://www.aus.ac.in)) or the university's admission office.
Authorities have also advised students to avoid engaging with any individual or third-party agent claiming to provide admission in exchange for money, calling such claims completely false and illegal.
While the extent of the scam is still being investigated, Assam University is expected to take further action to identify and report those responsible. The university has made it clear that legal action will be taken against such fraudsters under relevant laws. In the meantime, applicants are reminded to remain cautious and seek official guidance only from authorised university platforms.
