Ericsson Unveils First India-Made Antenna for Global Markets
Ericsson on Monday announced the launch of its first antenna model manufactured in India for global markets. The antenna will be commercially available starting in June, with international exports set to begin in July. In a statement, the company said the move underscores its commitment to positioning India as a strategic hub for innovation and global delivery.
The unveiling took place in the presence of Union Minister for Communications and Development of the North Eastern Region, Jyotiraditya Scindia.
Ericsson is strengthening its passive antenna manufacturing and engineering ecosystem in India by developing an end-to-end capability that encompasses local sourcing, production, and engineering. The solutions are tailored to meet both global and Indian network requirements.
This initiative began a year ago with a concentrated effort to establish a local ecosystem and set up component and antenna manufacturing in the country. With over 50 per cent of antenna content now being produced locally, Ericsson is moving into the next phase, enhancing its India-based engineering capabilities to support regional customisation, drive innovation, and scale up to meet global demand.
“It is a great honour to be part of the inauguration of this facility, which marks a significant milestone for us in India. This moment signals the beginning of a telecom manufacturing revolution in the country,” said Scindia.
The Union Minister noted that Ericsson is actively collaborating with telecom companies and the Government of India through the 100 5G Use Case Labs initiative. “Ericsson is also a key partner in the broader telecom ecosystem, working alongside various enterprises, IIT Madras, and the Indian Institute of Quantum Communication,” he added.
“We are dedicated to establishing a comprehensive antenna ecosystem in India, encompassing local sourcing, manufacturing, and engineering,” said Mikael Eriksson, Head of Ericsson Antenna Systems. “This represents a long-term investment in capability, talent, and technology. Our advanced passive antennas are crucial to the global evolution of 5G networks, and with our expanding local presence, we are well-positioned to deliver future-ready solutions that address the evolving needs of our customers.”
Nitin Bansal, Managing Director of Ericsson India, said, “India is quickly establishing itself as a global hub for high-tech manufacturing and innovation. Ericsson’s investment in local production and engineering not only reinforces the country’s telecom infrastructure but also helps build a resilient and future-ready ecosystem.”
The antennas manufactured in India will meet Ericsson’s stringent global standards for quality and performance, ensuring they cater to the requirements of both domestic operators and international clients.
