Mosques In Tripura Attacked By Miscreants, Muslim Body Demands Action

Some mosques in Tripura have been allegedly vandalized and attacked by a few miscreants, the Tripura State Jamiat Ulama (Hind), a major Muslim body said.

It can be mentioned that the attacks came after the recent unrest in Bangladesh's Noakhali district where an ISKCON temple was allegedly vandalized by some miscreants. One community was also killed during the attack.

President of the Tripura State Jamiat Ulama Mufti Tayebur Rahman has requested the intervention of Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb and Director General of Tripura Police V S Yadav. He claimed that miscreants are attempting to break communal harmony in Tripura and malign the government.

Rahman further said that mosques and residential areas inhabited by minorities in six to seven areas across the state, particularly Gomati, North Tripura, and West Tripura, are being attacked.

Hence, Muslims in some remote places are afraid to get out of their homes, Rahman said.

The group made five demands – legal action against accused attackers, an immediate halt to illegal actions, and action against rumor-mongers on and off social media, as well as condemnation of claimed communal violence in Bangladesh.

"No one in Hindu or Muslim communities of the state has supported Bangladesh's heinous acts." We also protested against that at the Bangladesh Visa Office," he further said.

"Few "unruly, sectarian people" are attempting to disturb Tripura's peace and tranquility," he added.
