Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday extended his wishes on the occasion of Vijayadashami to the troops during his visit to the India-China border at Bum La in Arunachal Pradesh.
The Defence Minister appreciated the efforts of the soldiers in securing the borders of the country in sub-minus temperatures at an altitude of 15,000 feet above sea level.
The Bum La Pass is a border pass between China's Tsona County in Tibet and India's Tawang district in Arunachal Pradesh.
The defence minister arrived in Tezpur for a two-day visit to Assam and Arunachal Pradesh on Monday.
Earlier today, Singh paid tribute to soldiers who lost their lives in the line of duty at Tawang War Memorial and appreciated the soldiers for shouldering the responsibility of guarding the borders.
Addressing the troops at the wreath-laying ceremony, Singh said, “The tough situation in which you are shouldering the responsibility of guarding the country's borders, we can't appreciate it enough. I would like to tell you that the countrymen are proud of you. All of you know the importance of your uniform.”
During the day, Rajnath Singh engaged with the security personnel deployed in the strategically vital Tawang sector located in Arunachal Pradesh. He also performed Shashtra Puja and held special prayers.
The Defence Minister also visited the 4 Corps Headquarters in Tezpur. During the visit, he reviewed the operational readiness of the formation, which is deployed in one of the easternmost parts of the country.
