India’s Onion Farmers At Loss in Global Market Due to High Export Duty

The government banned onion export in December 2023 fearing shortages in the domestic market. However, ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, it lifted the ban but imposed a 40% export duty on onions in May 2024.
