Air India Flight To Bali Returns Mid-Air After Volcanic Eruption Alert

An Air India flight from Delhi to Bali was forced to return mid-air on Wednesday after reports emerged of a volcanic eruption near Bali’s airport. Flight AI2145, which departed for Bali in the morning, landed back safely in Delhi as a precautionary measure, the airline said in a statement.

“Air India flight AI2145, on 18 June 2025 from Delhi to Bali, was advised to return to Delhi due to reports of volcanic eruption near the destination airport Bali, in the interest of safety. The flight safely landed back in Delhi, and all passengers have been disembarked,” an Air India spokesperson stated.

The airline has expressed regret over the inconvenience caused and said it is offering support to affected passengers. “Inconvenience caused to passengers is sincerely regretted and every effort has been made to minimise it by providing hotel accommodation to the affected passengers. Full refunds on cancellation or complimentary rescheduling has also been offered to them if opted,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, Air India has been facing operational disruptions in recent days. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) revealed on Tuesday that a total of 83 wide-body flights operated by Air India were cancelled between June 12 and 17, including 66 Boeing 787 services.

DGCA conducted a high-level review meeting with senior executives from Air India and Air India Express. These two carriers, combined, operate over 1,000 flights daily across both domestic and international routes.

The aviation regulator also examined the effects of recent airspace restrictions, especially those related to Iranian airspace, which have led to multiple flight diversions, delays, and cancellations.

DGCA stated that seven key focus areas were discussed to improve operational reliability and ensure strict regulatory compliance amid growing challenges.
