Air India SATS Airport Services (AISATS) has come under scrutiny after a video surfaced online showing employees celebrating and dancing in an office setting, allegedly in the days following the tragic crash of Air India Flight AI 171 in Ahmedabad. The video, which quickly went viral, has triggered public outrage and prompted disciplinary action within the organization.
In response, AISATS issued an official statement on Friday, expressing deep regret over the incident. “We stand in solidarity with the families affected by the tragic loss of AI 171 and deeply regret the lapse in judgment shown in a recent internal video,” the company stated.
“This behaviour does not reflect our core values, and strict disciplinary measures have been taken against those involved.”
According to reports, four senior employees have been asked to resign as part of the company's disciplinary action. AISATS stressed its commitment to maintaining professionalism and accountability across its operations, reiterating that such conduct will not be tolerated.
The controversial video reportedly captured employees partying inside the workplace. While the exact date of the video remains unclear, it is believed to have been recorded shortly after the devastating crash on June 12.
The accident, involving a London-bound Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, occurred just after takeoff from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. The aircraft crashed into the BJ Medical College hostel complex in the Meghani Nagar area, resulting in 241 fatalities out of 242 people on board. Among the victims was former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.
Meanwhile, the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) in New Delhi is currently analyzing data retrieved from the aircraft’s black boxes as part of an ongoing investigation into the cause of the crash.
