In a move aimed at advancing environmental education and sustainable development, Assam Women’s University (AWU) has entered into a formal partnership with the Green Action Foundation (GAF). The two institutions signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on research, knowledge sharing, and eco-conscious initiatives.
The signing ceremony took place on the AWU campus in the presence of Vice Chancellor Dr. Ajanta Borgohain Rajkonwar, Registrar Tapan Gohain (ACS), and faculty members from the university. Representing the Green Action Foundation were Pranab Kumar Sarmah, Director of CBE, and CEO Sujith Kumar Das, who were on hand to formalise the agreement.
Speaking at the event, Vice Chancellor Rajkonwar expressed her optimism about the collaboration, stating, “This partnership marks a significant milestone for AWU’s commitment to environmental education and applied research. We look forward to providing our students and researchers with opportunities for hands-on learning, awareness-building, and engagement in policy-related discussions.”
The MoU outlines several key areas of cooperation, including joint research projects focused on climate change, biodiversity conservation, and natural resource management. It also paves the way for seminars, workshops, and capacity-building training on pressing environmental challenges.
Other objectives of the collaboration include the exchange of scientific information, joint publication efforts, student involvement in awareness campaigns and green audits, and the implementation of sustainable practices on campus through community-driven outreach programs.
Highlighting the foundation’s goals, Pranab Kumar Sarmah said, “We are proud to collaborate with Assam Women’s University. This initiative aims to nurture a new generation of environmentally conscious researchers and leaders in the Northeast and beyond.”
The partnership is expected to offer new learning and research opportunities for both faculty and students, while contributing meaningfully to the region’s sustainability goals.
Meanwhile, in another notable development in Assam, the sixth meeting of the Sub-Committee on the Assam Accord implementation was recently held at Janata Bhawan. The meeting was chaired by Atul Bora, Assam’s Minister for Implementation of the Assam Accord, and attended by key representatives of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), underscoring continued efforts towards fulfilling the historic accord’s objectives.
