In yet another case of fraud, two young men have fallen victim to a job scam involving promises of employment at Janata Bhawan in Guwahati.
The accused has been identified as Umesh Das, a resident of Nalbari, who allegedly posed as an employee of Janata Bhawan and promised government jobs in the fourth-grade category.
The two victims, Kunaljit Basishtha and Mridul Deka, were reportedly asked to pay over Rs 8 lakh in exchange for the promised jobs. Umesh even collected official documents and certificates from both youths to make the process appear legitimate.
Suspecting foul play after repeated delays, the victims finally approached the police, leading to the exposure of Umesh’s fraudulent activities.
An investigation is currently underway. No arrest has been made at the time of filing this report.
