A portion of a road collapsed and an electric pole was uprooted late Thursday night in Guwahati’s Hengerabari area, allegedly after a sudden gush of water from a pipeline installed under the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) project.
The incident took place in the Lichubagan locality, where the strong water flow not only brought down the roadside slope but also dragged along soil, debris, and an electric pole. A guard wall in the area also gave way under the pressure and is now leaning dangerously against a nearby house.
This marks the second such incident in the same area in just two months, leaving the residents frustrated. They fear that some day it could lead to even more serious damage, or worse.
People in the area have urged the concerned departments to carry out a proper inspection and take immediate steps to fix the problem before it worsens.
