A heartbreaking case has come to light in Assam’s Bongaigaon, where a couple admitted to selling their two infant chilren, and shockingly, one of them was bought by a policeman.
The matter came to light after the children's parents, identified as Pranab Das and Budhu Bala Das, surrendered before the Bongaigaon Child Welfare Committee and admitted to selling their two children. The reasons behind their actions remain unclear, but the confessions have thrown open a troubling case of possible child trafficking.
What has outraged the public most is that one of the children was reportedly bought by a policeman currently posted in Bongaigaon. While the officer’s identity has not yet been disclosed, the revelation has sparked anger and disbelief among locals.
For several hours after the confession, the whereabouts of the second child remained a mystery, with the couple refusing to share any information. Later, they admitted that the child had been sold to a private businessman based in Bilasipara.
No official confirmation has been provided yet on the identities of either the policeman or the businessman involved.
The incident has triggered outrage, especially with a member of the police, who is meant to protect the public, being directly involved. Locals and child rights groups are demanding strong action and a proper investigation.
