In a shocking allegation against Guwahati Police, a youth named Aman Ali has accused personnel of Chandmari Police Station of brutally assaulting him for simply not wearing a helmet, leaving him injured and traumatised.
The incident reportedly took place around midnight at Commerce Point in Guwahati on Friday night, when Aman was en route to deliver emergency medicine. According to his statement, police stopped him during a routine check and allegedly assaulted him despite his explanation. He claims they knocked him off his scooty, beat him mercilessly, and subjected him to inhumane torture.
Ali alleged that the police forcibly pressed his abdomen against the hot silencer of his scooty, causing serious burn injuries. “They treated me like a terrorist,” he said in a social media post that has since gone viral.
“They pinned me down, beat me up, and tried to burn my stomach by pressing it against the hot silencer of my scooty,” he wrote. “One officer even tried to burn my face, but I was lucky to turn away just in time.”
He further claimed that the officers demanded Rs 10,000 from him and when he couldn't provide the amount, they allegedly threatened to impound his vehicle. “I told them I could manage Rs 8,000, but they refused online transfer and asked for cash. I didn’t have enough in my ATM. One of them said even Rs 5,000 would do,” he wrote. He alleged that after beating him up, the officers damaged his scooty, took away the keys from his pocket, and left him on the road.
Ali also accused the policemen of causing damage to his scooty and taking away his keys. He said he was later kicked and thrown aside before they left. “Six uniformed men treated me like a terrorist just because my name is Aman Ali. I thought they were going to shoot me,” he wrote, adding that he now suffers from semi-paralysis in his left hand due to the alleged assault.
He also questioned whether his surname played a role in the behaviour of the officers, claiming one of them made a communal remark after asking his name.
Currently undergoing treatment for burn injuries and trauma, Aman Ali has appealed to the Director General of Police (DGP), the Chief Minister, and the public for justice. In his post, he demanded compensation for his medical treatment and vehicle damage and urged authorities to take strict action against the officers involved.
Meanwhile, the incident has triggered outrage on social media, with several users demanding an impartial investigation. No official response has been issued yet by Chandmari Police or Assam Police headquarters.
