PM Modi's Historic Ghana Visit Seals Ties with Honours, MoUs, and Vision
Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Accra on Wednesday, becoming the first Indian PM to visit Ghana in over three decades. He was welcomed with chants of 'Hare Rama Hare Krishna' as he set foot on Ghanaian soil.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was personally received by President John Mahama, who welcomed him with a ceremonial guard of honour. The two leaders later held delegation-level talks at Jubilee House in Accra.

PM Modi’s visit was rich in symbolism, heartfelt gestures, and impactful remarks, highlighting the strong and historic ties between India and Ghana.
PM Modi in Ghana: A Historic Diplomatic Milestone
After his meeting with Ghanaian President John Mahama, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the two nations stood united in their stance against terrorism.
“Terrorism is the enemy of humanity. We thank Ghana for its support in our fight against it, and we’ve agreed to deepen our cooperation in counter-terrorism,” he said.
PM Modi also noted the convergence in India and Ghana’s views on UN reforms.
Stressing the importance of peaceful conflict resolution, he added, “This is not the time for war. Issues must be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy.”
On defence ties, the Prime Minister said both countries would advance with the guiding principle of “Security through Solidarity.”
“India is not just a partner, but a co-traveller in Ghana’s journey of nation-building,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi said during his visit to Accra.
Highlighting the growing economic ties between the two nations, he noted, “Our bilateral trade has crossed USD 3 billion, and Indian companies have invested over USD 2 billion across nearly 900 projects in Ghana. We’ve now set a target to double this trade in the next five years.”
PM Modi also announced that India will share its expertise in digital payments with Ghana. “In the FinTech sector, Bharat UPI will bring India’s digital payment experience to support Ghana’s digital economy,” he added.
“It is a proud moment for India that during our G20 presidency, the African Union was granted permanent membership,” said the Prime Minister.
India, Ghana Sign 4 MoUs to Strengthen Ties
India and Ghana signed four agreements on Wednesday after bilateral talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President John Dramani Mahama.
MoU on Cultural Exchange Programme (CEP): Aimed at enhancing cultural ties through collaborative initiatives in art, music, dance, literature, and heritage.
MoU between BIS and GSA: India’s Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) signed an MoU to strengthen collaboration in areas such as standardisation, certification, and conformity assessment.
MoU between Ghana's ITAM and India’s ITRA: Aimed at collaboration in traditional medicine through joint efforts in education, training, and research in Ayurveda and alternative healing systems.
MoU on Joint Commission Meeting: Aims to establish a formal platform for regular high-level dialogue and periodic review of bilateral cooperation.
