Pratidin Bureau

Call it coincidental or call it quirk of fate, father of  captured Pilot Abhinandan, veteran Air Marshal S Vartham was actually a consultant of a Mani Ratnam film of 2017  which handled the subject of a captured pilot in the 1999 Kargil War.

The name of the film was Kaatru Veliyidai — where Pakistan captures hero Karthi (a pilot).

The  Tamil film was directed by Mani Ratnam starring Karthi and Aditi Rao Hydari where hero Karthi plays an IAF pilot whose plane is shot down and captured by the Pak Army during the 1999 Kargil War. He is taken as a prisoner of war and is shown to be tortured.  In Pakistan custody, Varun begins thinking of his days with Leela, played by Aditi Rao Hydari in the film.
