At least 1.17 lakh people have been declared foreigners in Assam by Foreigner Tribunals (FTs) in the past 33 years.

Minister of State for Home G Kishan Reddy told the Parliament that "Foreigners Tribunals function as per the procedure laid down in Foreigners Tribunals (Order) 1964. As per the order dated 17.12.2014 of Hon'ble Supreme Court of India in WP(C) No.562/2012, a Special Bench of Hon'ble Gauhati High Court is regularly monitoring the functioning of the Foreigners Tribunals."
