Marijuana, Yaba Tablets Seized in Cachar

Continuing its drive against drugs, in continuation ofanti-drugs drive, Border Security Force (BSF) on Tuesday, in a joint operationwith Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Silchar, marijuana of around81.6 kilograms worth Rs 4.5 lakh near Hilara Rail Gate, under Katigorah policestation in Cachar district.

Acting on a tip-off, the joint team of the BSF and DRI intercepteda suspected truck (bearing registration number AP-05/TT-5328).

During searching the truck, 07 packets duly wrapped in plasticwere recovered and on opening the packets the seized items were found.

The operation party further apprehended the truck driver and thetwo co-drivers.

It may be mentioned here that the consignment of contraband wasloaded at Agartala (Tripura) and was on its way to North India.

In another incident, in a joint operation carried out by the BSFalong with Karimganj police, apprehended two smugglers and seized 178 Yabatablets on Tuesday afternoon along Indo-Bangladesh border.

In an official release issued on Wednesday it was reported thatthe acting on a specific tip-off, the joint operation team intercepted a vehicle(having registration number AS-11-C-4478 and seized the tablets.

Two youths were also apprehended by the team.

The youths have been identified as as Kabir Ahmad Majumdar NuzurzamanBharbhuiya.

According to the statement, the approximate cost of the seizedyaba pills is Rs 89,000.

The nabbed youths revealed that they received the consignmentfrom Karimganj and were going towards Badarpur.

It is worth mentioning here that the Mizoram & CacharFrontier of BSF in 2019 have seized over 1, 72,000 Yaba tablets and 500 kilograms of marijuana in the region
