Pratidin Bureau

Nagaon Police on Sunday apprehended five people in connection with illegal cattle smuggling.

The five were reportedly caught in a trap laid by the Nagaon Police. 42 stolen cattle were being smuggled by the five detained miscreants.

They have been identified as Rusmat Ali, Mostafa Ahmed, and Ajibur Rahman of Samaguri. Further, the driver and handyman of the truck, Jaan Bora and Bhrigu Bailung of Gohpur were also arrested.

The miscreants were on their way from Sivasagar and were caught near Samaguri in Assam's Nagaon district. They were reportedly on the way to the Bangladesh border with the stolen cattle.

Police meanwhile suspect them to be part of a syndicate that illegally smuggles cattle to the Bangladesh border.

Police also recovered cash amounting to ₹32,500 from the detained smugglers.
