5-year rigorous imprisonment for Excise officer

A specialCourt on Friday awarded five years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) and fine to aExcise officer of Golaghat in connection with a bribery case. Jiban Phukan, theExcise Department official in Golaghat, is the accused.

Apart from jail term, a fine of Rs. 25 thousand was also imposed on him. He was found guilty under Section 12 (1,A) of the Prevention of Corruption Act. The police registered a case against the officer in 2017.

According to police, the accused while working as an Excise office was caught red-handed taking bribe of Rs. 30 thousand.
