Around 51,000 people across seven districts have been affected by the onslaught of the Assam floods as water spreads to new areas, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) reported.

As of ASDMA's latest reports, 51,400 people have been hit in Lakhimpur, Sontipur, Dhemaji, Nalbari, Barpeta, Chirang, and Majuli districts. 85 villages have been reportedly affected.

A total of 32 people have lost their lives to the deluge while more than 3,743 hectares of crops have been destroyed in Majuli, Dhemaji and Lakhimpur.

Dhemaji and Lakhimpur have reportedly been hit the hardest as the lions' share of the displaced populace comes from these two districts, having a combined strength of 49,000 sufferers.

The Brahmaputra is flowing above the danger mark in Nimatighat and Sontipur while flood waters have wrecked embankment, roads and bridges in Jorhat, Lakhimpur, Barpeta, and Chirang districts. Meanwhile, heavy erosion have taken place in Biswanath, Morigaon and Chirang, according to ASDMA.

ASDMA reported that the authorities are running 21 relief camps and distribution centres in three districts, providing shelter and supplies to 1,494 people.
