AASU Opposes Shut Down of GEC

The All Assam Students' Union (AASU), Golaghat unit has staged a protest in Golaghat against the shutting down of the Golaghat Engineering College (GEC) and also burnt the effigy of state education minister.

The AASU has staged the protest in front of Golaghat DeputyCommissioner's office and seeks immediate intervention of the Chief Ministeragainst the shutting down of the college.

The AllIndia Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has directed the GEC authority toshut down the institution with immediate effect on July 22 and directed GEC todistribute the students among five engineering colleges in the state while theGEC authority is gearing up for its next academic session.

92students of the college are facing a bleak future as the AICTE has instructedto shut down the college with immediate effect.

Moreover,the AASU unit of Golaghat has also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Ministerand five MLAs of Golaghat district through the deputy commissioner demanding revivalof the college.
