AASU Takes Out Torchlight Rally across Assam

Pratidin Bureau

30 indigenous organisations led by All Assam Students Union (AASU) took out torchlight processions across the State in protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill on Thursday evening.

The participation in the rally was spontaneous with people from all walks of life joined the march. Members of AASU sharply opposed CAB and shouted various slogans against the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, CM Sarbananda Sonowal and BJP government.

"If the bill is passed in Rajya Sabha, it will render the Assam Accord null and void and will also make the NRC process meaningless," said Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharya, AASU Chief advisor, while taking part in Guwahati procession.

Similarly in Jorhat, the protesters demanded Chief Minister Sonowal to stand with the people of Assam and to take action against the bill.
