Pratidin Bureau

MadhubalaMandal, who was declared a 'foreigner', walked out of a detention camp onWednesday following the orders of a Foreigners' Tribunal in Kokrajhar. Theforeigner tribunal vacated its earlier order that declared her as a foreigner.

Shespent almost three years in Kokrajhar detention camp. Madhubala was sent to thedetention camp in 2016 owing to a confusion regarding her identity.

"Itwas a case of mistaken identity," admitted a senior police officer.

As per reports, the FT had sent a notification to one Madhubala Das of Bishnupur village. Since she died, the police mistook Madhubala Mandal to be Madhubala Das.

However, it was not cleared on who will be held responsible for detaining an innocent woman for nearly three years.
