AGP ministers tender their resignations

The three AGP ministers in the BJP-led Assam government are going to tender their resignations to Assam Governor today (Jan 9).

The AGP leaders have been campaigning against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 for the past few days.

On Monday, AGP President Atul Bora in an official statement in New Delhi had announced that "AGP is no longer in alliance with BJP". AGP leaders had gone to meet Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh at his official residence to discuss the controversial issue 'Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016'. After the meeting the AGP leaders stated that after so much there is no question of staying in alliance with BJP.

This was followed by, Cabinet had approved JPC's report and the Citizenship Bill has been passed in the Lok Sabha amid massive protests on Tuesday.

Earlier, Asom Gana Parishad threatened that "If Centre passes the Citizen Amendment Bill, 2016 in the Parliament then the AGP to break alliance with the BJP-led state government."
