Agreement signed to implement Subansiri Project

After the National Green Tribunal (NGT) upheld the technical committee that was set up by the Centre to review the fundamental of the Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project (SLHP), the Assam Government on Friday inked a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with NHPC Limited in Guwahati for implementation of 2000 MW SLHP.

TheSLHP will generate 7421.59 MU of electricity annually. NHPC is likely to resumethe construction work of the Project after rainy season is over.

PrincipalSecretary (Power), Niraj Verma has signed the MOA on behalf of Government ofAssam, while CMD of NHPC, Balraj Joshi signed the MOA on behalf of NHPC.

It maybe mentioned here that the construction activities of the SLHP has been stoppedsince 2011 due to agitation by several organisations including KMSS and AASU.
