AJYCP To Move SC seeking ILP for Assam

Frontline Students' Organisation, Asom Jatiyatabadi YuvaChatra Parishad (AJYCP), on Thursday said that it will move the Supreme Courtwith the demand of introducing Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Assam for protectingthe indigenous communities from "external infiltration and internalaggression".

The outfit demanded that the government must immediatelybring Assam under the Inner Line Permit (ILP) regime and also ensure theprotection of Assamese and all other indigenous people in the state.

Addressing a press conference, AJYCP general secretaryPalash Changmai said that the formalities on the part of the youth body havebeen completed and the legal procedure would be started when the apex courtopens on January 5.

"The ILP is fundamental for a state like Assam to protectits identity and culture. This has been a 40-year-old demand, the fulfillmentof which would not have threatened our identity in the way it has now. Besides,there is no need to amend the constitution for introducing ILP", Changmai said.
